Instead of calling HAMD for services you already pay the city for, call the city using the numbers below.
Medians/Esplanades: HAMD has adopted some esplanades. However, the City already mows and edges the grass once a month for esplanades that are not adopted by the HAMD or someone else--that is one of the reasons we already pay our normal property taxes. So without HAMD, the City will be the one mowing and edging the esplanade and removing litter, with no additional cost to you. If there's any issues with the upkeep of an esplanade, you can call the Houston Parks and Recreation at 832-395-7117, and they'll come fix the issue.
Graffiti Abatement: HAMD pays another Management District (East End MD, run by the same consultants who get paid by HAMD!) to do some graffiti abatement. However, we already pay for graffiti abatement with our normal property taxes, and the City already has plenty of resources set up to remove graffiti in public and private areas (www.houstontx.gov/graffiti/teamingup.html). If there's any graffiti around your properties, just call the City Helpline 311 to report it, and then the City will come remove it.
Security: Our taxes already provide security through HPD and the Harris County Constables. If you need extra security, you can directly hire off-duty officers when needed (http://www.offdutyhouston.com), or even contract a constable (https://hccp2.com/patrol-division-2/). These two programs are exactly what HAMD is using; we don't need their unnecessary bureaucratic overhead to provide security.
A group of business owners just east of Hobby Airport have a security co-op, created before HAMD existed, that is still active today (since HAMD security solved nothing). While they believe private security patrols have been a better fit for their needs, other security co-ops like this one would provide smaller businesses that want to pool resources an opportunity to hire off-duty officers, constables or other security without the other wasteful expenditures of HAMD.
